Spectacle Blind Flange
A spectacle blind flange, alternatively referred to as a figure-8 blind flange, is a specialty type of flange used in piping systems where regular maintenance, inspection, or modifications of the pipeline are necessary. It consists of two metal discs connected by a small section of metal, resembling a pair of glasses or a figure-8 shape, hence the name. One of the discs is solid (blind) and the other is an open ring with bolt holes.
During operation, the spectacle blind can be rotated so that either the solid disc blocks flow (closed position) or the ring with holes allows flow through the pipeline (open position). Design And Structure Of Spectacle Blind
This disc is solid and does not have any openings. When this disc is positioned between the flange fittings, it completely blocks the flow of fluid through the pipeline.
The ring disc, on the other hand, is similar to a standard flange but with holes that align with the bolt openings on the flange fittings. When this disc is in place, it allows fluid to flow through the pipeline.
