Carbon Steel Flange Appearance
- Carbon steel flanges have a matte grayish appearance, characteristic of the steel's composition.
- CS flanges are generally circular in shape, with a central bore (hole) through which the pipe passes.
- There are bolt holes around the perimeter of the flanges CS, evenly spaced, through which bolts are inserted to secure the flange to the mating component. These holes are usually drilled or machined with precision to ensure alignment during installation.
Types Of Carbon Flange
1. Weld neck flanges feature a long tapered hub that provides reinforcement to the flange and allows for smooth transition to the pipe. They are welded to the pipe, offering excellent strength and reliability, particularly in high-pressure and high-temperature applications;
2. Slip-on flanges have a slightly larger bore diameter than the outer diameter of the pipe. They are slipped over the pipe and then welded both inside and outside to provide strength and prevent leakage. Slip-on flanges are simpler to align and install than weld neck flanges and are commonly used in low-pressure applications;
3. Blind flanges are solid discs with no bore and are used to close the end of a piping system or vessel. They are typically used for pressure testing or to block off sections of a pipeline temporarily. Blind flanges are often installed with gaskets between mating flanges to ensure a tight seal;
4. Socket weld flanges have a socket or bore that is used to insert the pipe into the flange. The pipe is then fillet welded from the outside to provide strength and prevent leakage. Socket weld flanges are ideal for smaller-sized pipes and high-pressure applications;
5. Threaded flanges have internal threads that match the external threads of the pipe. They are screwed onto the pipe and then tightened with a wrench. Threaded flanges find common use in low-pressure, non-critical applications that necessitate easy assembly and disassembly;
6. Orifice flanges are specifically designed to accommodate orifice plates or flow meters in a pipeline. They feature a small bore that matches the bore size of the orifice plate and are often used in measuring and regulating fluid flow.
